10 Ways To Use Coffee
In honor of National Coffee Day (Sept 29) and International Coffee Day (Oct 1) we've gone a little coffee crazy and decided to count down all of the ways that coffee can be beneficial in our daily lives (other than for keeping us up and at 'em all day long).
Don't toss those used coffee grounds in the morning, save those babies for later. Here are 10 ways that you can use that leftover brew to benefit you!
1. Fix Dark Wooden Furniture
Similar to how beer can be used to polish wooden furniture
, coffee can be used to fill or minimize the appearance of cracks and scratches on dark wooden furniture.
Mix a paste of grounds and water and then, using a cotton swab, apply coffee paste over scratches. Wipe excess off with a cloth and buff with furniture polish if you really want to seal it in.
2. Flavor Your Food
Coffee is not just for drinking & desserts! Add a jolt of flavor to your dishes with the addition coffee. Coffee pairs especially well with meats such as beef, lamb and pork.

3. Fertilize Plants
Similar to beer, the acidity of coffee - as well as its levels of nitrogen - help to feed and fertilize plants. Mix a small amount of coffee grounds (1/2 -3/4 cups) with seeds when you plant, or bury near roots once a month for increased plant growth. This works well for planting carrots & radishes.
4. Clean Your Face
Make a face scrub of moist grounds. The grounds exfoliate the face, getting rid of dead skin as well as smoothening and tightening the skin. You can also add to milk and apply for 10 minutes to help treat acne.
5. Get Glossier Hair
Work moist grounds into dry, clean hair, leave in for 20 minutes and then rinse. The coffee helps to strip oil and buildup from hair, leaving it looking smoother and shinier.
6. Deodorize Your Fridge
Be rid of those stinky smells coming from your fridge or freezer. Simply place a bowl of dry grounds anywhere in your fridge or freezer and the coffee will help to neutralize odors left by old or spoiled food.
7. Clean Dishes
Apply a few teaspoons of grounds onto a cleaning rag and use it to scrub away all of the leftover grease and grime from your pots, pans and dishes. Give it a scrub with the coffee grounds and then rinse as usual.
8. Homemade Body Scrub
Mix coffee grounds with coconut oil and sugar to make a body scrub that helps to increase blood circulation, exfoliate dead skin cells, moisturize your body and reduce the appearance of cellulite.

9. Clean Hands After Chopping Garlic
No matter how much soap you use, sometimes you just cant get the smell of garlic and onions off of your hands. Thankfully coffee can help with that. Rubbing your hands with a handful of coffee grounds helps to absorb the stinky odor. Keep a little cup of grounds by your sink if you find yourself in this predicament often.
10. Unclog Your Drain
Coffee grounds + boiling water + dish soap = unclogged sink. Use this coffee combo in your kitchen and bathrooms to help to clear up clogs and built up grease.
